TORQUE
穴の開いた板に棒を通して傾けると、棒は穴の側面に引っかかる。TORQUEはこの仕組みを使い、二枚の天板を異なる位置で支えています。脚が倒れ込んで安定するため、荷重がかかると強度が増します。捻れにより色違いの天板が各々の表情を見せる点も魅力です。天板は裏返しても使えるので、異なる風合いを使い分けることも可能です。

Leveraging the physics of friction and inclination.
When a stick is inserted into a holed board and tilted, it becomes wedged against the sides of the hole. TORQUE applies this mechanical principle to support two separate tabletops at different levels. As the legs lean into each other to find stability, the structure actually gains strength as more weight is applied.
The deliberate twisting of the form allows the differently colored tabletops to showcase their unique characters simultaneously. Furthermore, the tabletops are reversible, allowing the user to alternate between different textures and tones to suit their preference.

1772年、ジョセフ=ルイ・ラグランジュは『三体問題に関するエッセイ』の中で、公転する主星と従星の間に存在する、重力場と遠心力が釣り合う点“ラグランジュ・ポイント”を示しました。この点に置かれた物体は平衡の状態となり、相対位置を変えずに公転し続けることができます。
様々な力の交差の中に見出される静かなる安定。それは天文学だけの話ではなく、身近な空間にも見つけることができるはずです。

コレクション”ラグランジュ・ポイント”は、一見すると不安定な力や構造に潜んでいる平衡点を探り出すことで生まれた作品たちです。


Collection Concept: “Lagrangian Point”

In his 1772 work, “Essay on the Three-Body Problem,” Joseph-Louis Lagrange identified specific points in space between two revolving celestial bodies where gravitational pull and centrifugal force are perfectly balanced. These are known as “Lagrangian Points.” An object placed at such a point attains a state of equilibrium, allowing it to maintain its relative position while continuing its orbital journey.

A sense of serene stability can be found where various opposing forces intersect. This phenomenon is not limited to the realm of astronomy; it can be discovered within our immediate surroundings as well.

The collection “Lagrangian Point” is a series of works born from an exploration of these hidden points of equilibrium, tucked away within seemingly unstable forces and structures.
