海賊遊覧船「みらい」
九十九島パールシーリゾートに新たに就航した、海賊遊覧船のデザインを担当した。
30年以上にわたり、九十九島の海で親しまれてきた先代の海賊遊覧船「海王」のDNAを継承しつつ、次世代へと繋ぐ新たな象徴としての姿が求められたプロジェクトである。
造形面では、3本マスト、後部に設けた貴賓席など、帆船デザインにおける定石を押さえつつ、一方では、海賊ハットをイメージした造形モチーフや、マストの上部にある見張り台、甲板中央にあるステージとそれらを取り囲む着席可能な階段もデザインに取り込み、歴史的な「リアル」と乗船体験としての「エンターテイメント」を行き来しながらデザインをまとめた。
CMFデザインでは、先代の海王の「赤＋金」の2カラーから「赤＋金＋茶」の3トーンとすることで、存在感を高めている。
船内インテリアは、神戸芸術工科大学 プロダクト・インテリアデザイン学科の相良二朗氏・田頭章徳氏と協力。海賊船モチーフの楽しさを大切にしながらも、ユニバーサルデザインに配慮した現代的な乗り心地を追求した。
また、船首のフィギュアヘッド（船首像）は、九十九島の準絶滅危惧種である「ミサゴ」が真珠を掴んで飛び立つ瞬間を表現。同大学 メディア芸術学科の吉田雅則氏が造形を手掛けている。
Pirate Sightseeing Ship “Mirai”
I was responsible for the design of “Mirai,” a new pirate-themed sightseeing ship launched at Kujukushima Pearl Sea Resort. This project sought to create a new icon for the next generation while inheriting the DNA of its predecessor, “Kaio,” which had been a beloved fixture in the waters of Kujukushima for over 30 years.
The exterior design adheres to the classic elements of a sailing vessel, such as the three masts and the stern-side VIP cabin. Simultaneously, it incorporates playful elements like a pirate hat-inspired motif, a crow’s nest atop the mast, and a central deck stage surrounded by tiered seating. The final design balances historical “realism” with the “entertainment” of the onboard experience. For the CMF (Color, Materials, and Finish), I updated the original “Red + Gold” palette of the Kaio to a three-tone “Red + Gold + Brown” scheme, enhancing the vessel’s presence.
The interior was designed in collaboration with Jiro Sagara and Akinori Tagashira of the Department of Product and Interior Design at Kobe Design University. We focused on maintaining the excitement of the pirate theme while pursuing a modern, comfortable experience through universal design principles. The figurehead at the bow depicts a “Pandion” (Osprey)—a near-threatened species in Kujukushima—clutching a pearl as it takes flight. This piece was sculpted by Masanori Yoshida of the Department of Media Arts at the same university.
